FAQ — Tokyo Nights Photography Experience

If you’re considering joining Tokyo Nights, this page covers the most common questions about the experience — from gear and logistics to expectations in the field. If anything isn’t covered here, feel free to reach out.

Why choose this experience?

Because this isn’t just a tour — and not a rigid workshop either.
It’s a small, intentional experience designed so you can create stronger, more meaningful images with real guidance in the field.

My role is to help you see more clearly, work with intention, and create photographs that feel aligned with your way of seeing — not just copy what I shoot.

If that approach resonates, you’ll gain a tremendous amount from our time in Tokyo.

When do I pay?

A 50% deposit secures your spot.
The remaining balance is due April 25, 2026.

You’ll receive a confirmation email after payment. If you don’t receive it within 48 hours, reach out with your order number and I’ll confirm your booking directly.

What gear should I bring?

You don’t need everything you own.
A simple, lightweight kit works best in Tokyo.

Recommended lenses:

  • 16–35mm

  • 24–70mm (or 24–105mm)

A 70–200mm is optional — useful at times, but heavy to carry nightly.

Required:

  • A stable tripod

  • A wired cable release (essential for long exposures)

Your pre-workshop brief will include more detailed guidance specific to Tokyo Nights.
And after you book, we can also talk 1:1 to make sure your kit is dialed in perfectly.

Should I bring ND filters?

Yes — if you plan to shoot long exposures, ND filters are a big part of the experience.

Bring:

  • 3-stop

  • 6-stop

  • 10-stop filters for your lenses.

If you’re missing something important, I can help you choose the right option or suggest rentals.

What else should I bring?

Comfortable, breathable footwear (we walk a good amount).
A light rain jacket.

Should I bring a laptop?

It’s optional.
I’ll have mine for editing sessions, but you’re welcome to bring yours if you prefer to review and develop images during the workshop.

Can I bring a spouse or non-photographer?

Yes — your spouse can absolutely join you on the trip.

Mornings are completely free, so that’s your time together.

But from 1pm through the late evening, the experience is reserved for participating photographers only.

The hours, pace, and focus required simply don’t fit well with non-photographer guests.

What if the weather is bad?

We don’t cancel for weather — we work with it.
Light rain is part of the season and often creates the most atmospheric conditions of the week.

Are there sunrise sessions?

No.
Our work begins in the afternoon and continues into the evening and night.
Mornings are free for rest, recovery, or personal exploration.

What is your refund policy?

Please read the full Terms & Conditions for details.
If you have questions after reviewing them, feel free to reach out.

What happens after I book?

You’ll receive your confirmation email, followed soon after by a detailed pre-workshop brief with:

  • where to stay

  • arrival/departure timing

  • what to pack

  • navigating the city

  • working in variable weather

  • practical details for late-night shooting

  • and other helpful notes

Everything you need will be in that brief so you can plan with confidence.
