FAQ — Venice Photography Workshop
If you’re considering joining the Venice Photo Workshop, this page covers the most common questions about the experience — from gear and logistics to expectations in the field. If anything isn’t covered here, feel free to reach out.
Why choose this experience?
Because this is neither a tour nor a formula-driven workshop.
It’s a small, intentional photography experience built around time, attention, and working carefully in the field.
The goal isn’t to rush from location to location, but to stay with what’s developing and make thoughtful decisions as scenes take shape.
My role is to work alongside you — helping you see more clearly, respond to conditions in real time, and create photographs that feel aligned with your way of seeing, not mine.
If that approach resonates, this week in Venice will be deeply rewarding.
When do I pay?
A 50% deposit secures your place.
The remaining balance is due November 15, 2026.
You’ll receive a confirmation email after payment.
If you don’t receive it within 48 hours, reach out with your order number and I’ll confirm your booking directly.
What gear should I bring?
Less is better here.
Venice is a walking city, and we’re on our feet for much of the day. A streamlined kit makes a meaningful difference.
Recommended lenses (or equivalents):
16–35mm
24–70mm or 24–105mm
That combination covers nearly everything we’ll encounter.
Required:
A stable tripod
A wired cable release (essential for long exposures)
Your pre-workshop brief will include more detailed guidance, and we can also talk 1:1 after you book to fine-tune your kit.
Should I bring ND filters?
Yes.
If you plan to work with long exposures, ND filters are an important part of the process.
Bring:
3-stop
6-stop
10-stop filters for your lenses
If you’re missing something, I’m happy to help you choose the right option or suggest rentals.
What else should I bring?
Comfortable footwear suitable for long walking days
A warm jacket and layers
A light rain shell
Winter conditions are part of the experience, and being comfortable makes a big difference.
Should I bring a laptop?
Optional.
I’ll have mine available for review and discussion.
You’re welcome to bring yours if you like reviewing or developing images during the week, but it’s not required.
Can I bring a spouse or non-photographer?
Yes — with a clear understanding of the structure.
This workshop is reserved for participating photographers during shooting sessions, walking days, and group time.
The pace, movement, and focus simply don’t work well with non-participants.
That said, there are evenings and two flexible half-days during the week when participants may step away from the workshop. During those periods, spouses are welcome to spend time together independently.
What if the weather isn’t ideal?
We don’t cancel for weather — we work with it.
Winter conditions, light rain, fog, and variable skies are often what create the most compelling photographs in Venice. The workshop is designed to adapt as conditions change.
Are there sunrise sessions?
Yes — selectively.
Some days begin early when conditions call for it, while others start later.
The schedule remains responsive throughout the week rather than fixed.
Details will be outlined in your pre-workshop brief.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please review the full Terms & Conditions for details.
If you have questions after reading them, feel free to reach out.
What happens after I book?
You’ll receive:
A confirmation email
A detailed pre-workshop brief covering:
lodging guidance
arrival and meeting details
what to pack
navigating Venice
working comfortably in winter conditions
practical notes for long shooting days
Everything you need to plan with confidence will be included.
